2010 Golf Tournament Results
On September 30, 2010, The 6th Annual SWAT Association Golf Classic was held at Maderas Golf Club in Poway. All 36 foursomes of the sold out tournament were greeted enthusiastically. They received VIP treatment throughout the day thanks to the hard work of the Maderas staff and our volunteers. A pregame lunch was hosted by L & L Barbeque followed by the official welcome from Chief Lansdowne and Assistant Chief Kanaski.
The Bearcat was proudly displayed on the course as were many items of SWAT equipment purchased with funds raised from prior tournaments. In keeping with the “Oktoberfest” theme, a mid-day lightning storm brought the players back to the clubhouse where several local breweries provided refreshments. The players actually enjoyed the “Halftime Festivities” and many commented on making it a regular part of the event.
The new perpetual trophies were unveiled and named after the two founders of the tournament, retired Lieutenant Ray Shay and Golf Committee Chairman Dan Barnett of NOVA Engineering.
At the conclusion of play, all participants were treated to live music and a SWAT demonstration including pyrotechnics and support from ABLE. The dinner auction was highlighted by both Brian Giles and Mor Furniture For Less who, without hesitation, volunteered to sponsor two RECON Scout robots for the team. Because of their generosity, and all others in attendance, this year’s tournament helped raise $95,000 for life saving equipment.
The San Diego Police Department and SWAT Team would like to thank everyone who supported this event. We are especially grateful for the continued support of our title sponsors Mor Furniture For Less and Echo Pacific Construction.
